Karonga United underrate Nomads
Newly-crowned Carlsberg Cup kings, Be Forward Wanderers, hosts defiant Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
The rookies held Wanderers to a goalless draw at Mzuzu Stadium in the first round, and come into this game in confident mood.
While Wanderers opened their second round assignments with a 1-1 draw against Red Lions last Wednesday, Karonga beat Dwangwa United 3-2 in Mzuzua a fortnight ago.
Karonga’s chairperson, Alufeyo Banda, said they were determined to give Wanderers a good run for their money. Karonga are third from bottom with 14 points.
“Wanderers are no longer a team that we can fear. Their performance is below par. It is only the name that is remaining. We are confident that our squad will deliver,” Banda said.
Karonga will feature players such as Khumbo Msowoya, who scored a hat-trick during the game against Dwangwa, Nangaunozge Luhanga and Hygiene Mwandepeka, who scored in the sensational 1-0 win over Bullets in the first round.
Wanderers will likely feature Jafali Chande and Peter Wadabwa upfront, with Joseph Kamwendo and captain Francis Mlimbika leading the midfield.
The Nomads are on position nine with 25 points, nine behind leaders Blue Eagles.
