Karonga Utd settle for Zimbabwean

Karonga United have hired Zimbabwean mentor Lazarus Magaya, who is former coach for Botswana Premier League side Gaborone United.
Magaya has replaced Dan Dzinkambani, who dumped the Lakeshore side last month.
Karonga United Chairperson Mathews Tulombolombo confirmed hiring Magaya, saying they believed the coach would transform the side to a trophy-winning team next season.
“I can comfortably confirm that we have agreed with coach Magaya to lead our technical department. We have been holding talks for quite a long time and we believe that, having coached teams in Zimbabwe, Botswana and eSwatini, he will bring us the change we need,” Tulombolombo said.
Karonga United, who were voted the most improved team in the just ended TNM Super League season, have become the third team in elite league to hire an expatriate coach in the past three years— after Silver Strikers [Dan Kabwe] and Nyasa Big Bullets [Kalisto Pasuwa].
Magaya, who coached the eSwatini Premier Soccer League sides Malanti Chiefs and Mbabane Citizens, worked as technical director at the defunct Masters Security.
He guided the team to the 2018 Carlsberg Cup victory and finished fourth in the league.
Karonga United finished fifth in the just ended season with 46 points from 30 matches.
