Kenyan duo excited to join Bullets family
Kenyan defenders Clyde Senaji and Collins Okumu have spoken of their excitement at signing year-long contracts with TNM Super League champions FCB Nyasa Bullets.
Both players have joined as free agents and were featured last weekend during Bullets’ 2023 International Pre-season Bonanza at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Senaji said securing a contract with Bullets was tough after undergoing high intensity training.
“I am finally happy to get a contract with the champions of Malawi. It has been tough to secure a contract after undergoing high-intensity training with the team and I am looking forward to achieving more with this big club.
“I have played for a big team in Kenya, AFC Leopards, which has a huge following just like Bullets. So I was up for the challenge [during the bonanza] and it came out good,” he told Bullets’ website.
The East African said he was also delighted to work under coach Kalisto Pasuwa, describing him as an achiever.
“He is an achiever. He has been winning and you can tell from his CV that he is a winner. What he has achieved speaks for itself; so, I am happy to work for him. I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds when we start the new season,” Bullets’ website quotes him as saying.
Okumu said playing for Bullets will give him a good platform to showcase his talent.
“It’s a good platform to showcase my talent and I believe Bullets is a big team. I am looking forward to the new challenge and I promise to work hard because I believe in myself,” he told nyasabigbullets.com.
The former Thika United, Posta Rangers and Bidco United defender saluted Bullets fans for their vocal support during the three-day bonanza.
“It was a nice environment because judging by the experience, the fans push you to work extra harder and playing in front of them was a plus for me.
I thank them for the support they gave me on Sunday,” the website quotes him as saying.
Bullets’ website states that Sinaji had impressed Pasuwa after a three-week assessment.
“The 26-year-old former Tusker and AFC Leopards player joins Bullets as a free agent after agreeing to a one-year contract and will be part of The People’s Team family until February 2024.
The Kenyan international, who can also comfortably play as centre-back, impressed as he came on as a second-half substitute against Mozambican Ferroviário de Nampula on Friday and against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on Saturday when he was given full minutes,” a report on the player reads.
Okumu was the second to be announced as a Bullets player on Tuesday afternoon as the People’s Team moved to bolster its defensive options for the 2023 season.
“Okumu, 25, impressed head coach Kalisto Pasuwa during his three-week trial with the club, including his involvement in the 2023 Pre-Season International Bonanza at the weekend.
“He came on as a second-half substitute during the 0-0 draw against Mozambican Ferroviário de Nampula on Friday before he played full minutes in our 1-0 loss to UD Songo on Sunday,” Bullets website reported.
