Local Girl Keturah takes to the stage Saturday night to launch her self-titled debut 10-track album at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.
It has been a long journey for her to finally put together an album which was recorded at Hen House Studios in United States of America by Harlan Steinberger.
The artist will perform with a full band during the launch and it includes the USA team of Steinberger and Jason Tamba.
With her love for traditional music, Keturah’s album launch comes in timely as on Thursday Africans including Malawians celebrated Africa Day.
“I am more than ready; I cannot wait to give people my music. It has been a long wait,” she said yesterday.
Keturah is also expected to share the stage with Lawi from Lilongwe and other artists on the night.
The album which is already on the market having been released on May 19 2023, journeys through a dynamic blend of genres, from the lively, upbeat afro-folk-funk rhythms of ‘Kwanumkwanu’ to the emotive ballads of ‘Sukulu’ and ‘Chimbalame’, the US inspired ‘Nchiwewe’ and more light-hearted tracks such as ‘All The Way from Africa’ and ‘Ku Nyumba’.
The other songs in the album are ‘Mvula’, ‘Udzafele Zina’ Samala’ and ‘Wewe’.
While Keturah will be launching her album in Blantyre, in Mangochi at Sunbird Nkopola, Impakt Events led by Soldier Lucius Banda will be holding a two-day inaugural Sand Arts Festival.
Lucius said that with Africa Day celebrated Thursday, they were more than ready to offer people all-out entertainment during the event.
The festival running under the theme ‘Mental Health Matters’ starts today and ends on Sunday.
“We are ready with this festival and this is all about reaching out to other artistic disciplines that do not have platforms. We have poetry, drama, visual arts, comedy and music,” Lucius said.
He said among others, the festival which is not running on a huge budget compared to Sand Music Festival which comes up in September at the same venue is on the lower side in terms of its package.
The acts set to perform Saturday include DJs Ghetto Fresh and Reubie, Artisan MW, Mike Njoka, YDC Theatre, Hudson Chamasowa, Raphael Sitima, Zembani Band, Che Malamba, Nepman, Sam Smack, Lucius, Jane Senenje, Marvelous Deeds, Q Malewezi, Asabu, Sean Morgan, Malinga Mafia, Phyzix, Piksy, Kell Kay, Dan Lu, Alleluya Band and Mlaka Maliro.
The second day will feature artists such as DJ Gene, Mr Jokes, Ching’aning’ani and Nginde, Gibo Pearson, Agorosso, Wendy Harawa, Zeze Kingston, Eli Njuchi, Black Missionaries and Anthony Makondetsa and Keturah, who will be fresh from launching her album.
