Grammy nominated producer Harlan Steinberger has described the country’s musician Keturah as talented and extremely professional and that she is a great ambassador for Malawi.
Steinberger is the owner of state-of-the-art recording studio Hen House in United States of America (USA) where they are recording Keturah’s six-track album.
“We have had a pre-production rehearsal followed by a recording session. It’s been amazing. Keturah is a great singer and the musicians I have chosen to be her studio band are amazing. The bass player Kaveh Rastegar plays often with John Legend and Mermans Mosengo and Jason Tamba (Congo) are from Playing For Change Band,” he said.
Steinberger, who has a history with Jacaranda School for Orphans, said Keturah, who is in USA courtesy of Luc Deschamps and Marie Da Silva, said Keturah has met all expectations and more.
“She is a wise, old soul with a voice and talent that transcends. Our goal is to make an album rooted in Malawi musical culture with some Southern California overtones,” he said.
Steinberger said, apart from the album, a documentary film about Keturah and the making of her album is in the pipeline.
“We are looking at a full length album release, music video and documentary and we are also looking into getting her some gigs as well,” he said.
Tamba, who plays the guitar, described Keturah as the new Mama Africa whereas Mosengo, who plays drums, said “Keturah is the hope of African music for the new generation to come”.
Co-producer Mark Johnson said: “It is the honour of my life for me and Playing for Change to be involved in Keturah’s new album. She has so much talent and brings so much light to the world”.
Rastegar, who plays the bass guitar, said working with Keturah was great and described her as a true artist who deserves a place on the international stage.
The ‘Nambewe’ creator, who is also known as Local Girl, has been posting some videos on her Facebook page interacting with her fans as well as sharing some insights into her exploits in USA.
This is Keturah’s first international trip since she started her music career.
In another development, musician Faith Mussa left the country on Sunday for Spain.
