Malawi National Football Team striker Khuda Muyaba is just three matches away from winning the Glad Africa Championship Golden Boot Award in South Africa.
Muyaba, who plays for Polokwane City, is leading the goalscorers’ chart with 13 goals from 27 matches, just one above his closest challenger Tiklas Thutlwa of Black Leopards.
Muyaba said he was hopeful of lifting the accolade.
“There are three games to go and there is a chance that I will score a few more. By the grace of God, I will win it,’’ he said.
However, Muyaba should be concerned with his goal drought in recent matches as the last time he scored was in February in a 2-0 win over Uthongathi.
Muyaba set himself a target of 20 goals in the Glad Africa Championship.
The former Moyale Barracks and Silver Strikers goal poacher is expected to be part of the Flames squad during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for next month.
Polokwane are sixth on the Glad Africa Championship table with 38 points from 27 matches, 11 points behind leaders Richards Bay.
Muyaba is on course to following in the footsteps of former Flames striker Atusaye Nyondo, who won the award with 16 goals while playing for Carara Kicks in 2010.
