Khuda Muyaba delighted with Polokwane first goal

On-and-off Flames striker Khuda Muyaba has expressed relief after scoring his first goal for Polokwane City in a 2-2 draw against Free State Stars in the Glad Africa Championship on Saturday.

Muyaba believes the goal has boosted his confidence.

“I am really excited to score the first goal for the club. It was not easy for me but I can see more good things this season. I have settled well and I can still win the Golden Boot Award,” he said.

Muyaba, who moved to South Africa last year in January, had a difficult start to his life in the DStv Premiership, having failed to score a goal last season.

But in his first start for the club in the lower division on Saturday, the Malawian striker took only eight minutes to find the back of the net.

However, Stars scored two goals before Sibosiso Sibeko rescued a point for Polokwane.

Muyaba moved to the PSL last year with a reputation as goal-poacher, having won the TNM Super League Golden Boot Award with 21 goals—becoming the first player to score 20 goals in the league since 2005.

Polokwane are on position eight in the Glad Africa Championship with 12 points from nine matches, four points adrift of leaders Sekhukhune who have played 10 matches.

Sports analyst George Kaudza Masina said Muyaba deserves a place in the national team.

“Khuda is a very good striker and I am sure he will score more goals for Polokwane. I think he should also be given a chance to play for the national team again,” Masina said.

In the DStv Premiership, Limbikani Mzava’s AmaZulu FC defeated Baroka FC 2-0 on Saturday.

AmaZulu did not feature Mzava whereas Gerald Phiri Junior featured for Baroka, as striker Richard Mbulu was on the bench.

Mbulu has netted four goals in the DStv Premiership this season.

In another match, Orlando Pirates of Frank Gabadinho Mhango returned to winning ways after beating Maritzburg 1-0.
