Flames striker Khuda Muyaba scored the winning goal as Polokwane City beat Steenberg United 2-1 in a Glad Africa Championship on Saturday.

The Malawian scored in the 70th minute to secure maximum points for his side.

Zambian striker Sululani Phiri gave Polokwane the lead but Lesvin Stoffels equalised for the visitors.

Muyaba has taken his tally to five goals in the second-tier league, just four goals behind leading goal-scorer Moeketsi Sekola of Jomo Cosmos.

The former Silver Strikers forward said his target was to hit 20 goals in the Glad Africa championship.

“I promise that I will score 20 goals this season,” he said.

With the victory, Polokwane have moved to position seven on the log table with 26 points from 19 matches, eight points behind leaders Sekhukhune United.

Local sports analyst George Chiusiwa said Muyaba was enjoying a rich vein of form in the Glad Africa Championship.

“He has really cemented his importance for the Flames by scoring consistently. Khuda’s constant scoring will undoubtedly elevate his confidence and morale as he is now a key member of the Flames,” he said.

“At present, only Richard Mbulu has proved to be an out and out striker for the Flames but the choice of his attacking partner will depend on the performances of other strikers and the type of opposition the Flames will be facing.”

The striker featured for Flames in back-to-back 1-0 victories over South Sudan and Uganda in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Muyaba joined Polokwane in January 2020 but he struggled in his debut season in the DStv Premiership.

However, he has rediscovered his form in the second-tier league this season.
