Khuda Muyaba refuses to apologise, dumps Polokwane

Dropped Malawi national football team striker, Khuda Muyaba, has unceremoniously left South Africa’s Premier Soccer League relegated side, Polakwane City, after failing to mend fences with the team’s management.

Muyaba is expected to arrive in the country today although it is not clear whether he has officially terminated his four-year contract, just eight month into it. He joined Polokwane in January this year.

“It is better I return home [Malawi] and suffer than stay here [in South Africa]. I have endured a lot. This club paid Silver Strikers for my services but did not pay my signing- on fee. As I am speaking I left the teams base and I am now in Johannesburg ready to return home on Tuesday [today],” he said.

The former Silver Strikers forward reportedly expressed his anger and refused to apologise to the club’s chairman Johnny Mogaladi during a meeting held on Friday.

Muyaba criticised the club’s hierarchy for turning him into a fringe player as he only played a single game and came in as a substitute. He also hit at the club for failing to pay his signing on fee and accused his compatriot, Esau Kanyenda, for sabotaging his life at Polokwane.

Former Flames striker, Kanyenda, who facilitated Muyaba’s move to South Africa, has expressed sadness over his compatriot’s conduct.

“I am deeply shocked if what you are saying is true. I am afraid all the respect South Africa bosses have for me will be compromised. This will likely affect opportunities for Malawian players to play in South Africa,” he said.

Muyaba won the 2019 TNM Super League golden boot award after scoring 21 goals.
