Khungekile Matiya is Africa Netball Genera Secretary

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) President, Khungekile Matiya, has been elected Africa Netball’s General Secretary during an annual general meeting held on Thursday in Cape Town, South Africa.
The meeting was convened as teams finalised preparations for the African Netball Championship which threw off yesterday.
Matiya said she was excited to take up the position which would also benefit Malawi.
“I want to use my new post to champion Malawi’s interests at international level. It is good for us to be represented in this manner at international level. This is an achievement for Malawi and we should all be proud,” she said.
Matiya said she expected Malawi to benefit from continental resources to help in improving coaching and umpiring.
“Malawi will also learn from others how they have developed netball from the grassroots. Above all, I thank God for this opportunity to serve netball in Africa. It is a great honour,” she said.
Malawi National Council of Sports Acting Executive Secretary, Henry Mereka, said it was important to have representation at top level.
“This is good for the game in Malawi as she [Matiya] can use her influence to channel resources for different programmes into the country,” Mereka said.
