King, Queen of the courts tourney returns

The fifth edition of the King and Queen of the Courts Basketball Tournament is set to take place at African Bible College (ABC) in Lilongwe this weekend.
For the first time in the history of the competition, two foreign teams would take part in the event. Bravehearts Patron Griffin Kalua said Cavaliers (both men and ladies) from Zimbabwe and Tete All Stars (both men and ladies) from Mozambique have confirmed their participation in this year’s event.
“We have invited foreign teams to spice up the event. We expect to host a good tournament,” Kalua said.
The tournament will attract top three teams in both male and female categories from all the basketball zones in the country.
However, four teams in each category from Central Zone Basketball (Cezobal) would participate in the tournament.
This is because Bravehearts, who are the hosts, finished as champions in both male and female categories.
ABC Lions, who finished second, Kamuzu Barracks and Central Knights would also take part in the tournament from Cezobal.
In the ladies’ category, Bravehearts, Arkangels, Dynamites and Katana would represent Cezobal.
Crazy Warriors, CDH (men and ladies), Cobbe Barracks (men and ladies) and Mystics Ladies are Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) ambassadors while Moyale Barracks and Nozobal All Stars would represent Northern Zone Basketball League (Nozobal).
Tournament Director Kuda Zvareva from South Africa said all was set for the tournament.
“We have finalised logistics for the tournament. We hope the teams will display good basketball throughout the event,” he said.
The tournament comes just two weeks after Bravehearts Ladies won a gold medal in South Africa whereas the men’s team won bronze.
