Kings & Queens battle
Civo Basketball Court will be the battlefield as King & Queen Of The Court Basketball Tournament reaches its climax this weekend.
The tournament started last week with play-offs which saw defending champions Magang’a, Crazy Warriors from Southern Zone Basketball League, Bravehearts and Cougars from Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) booking semi-final slots.
Bravehearts finished top in Pool One with six points followed by Warriors on five points after playing three games whereas Cougars and Magang’a emerged top and second in Pool Two with six and five points, respectively.
But the most anticipated semi-final battle will be between Bravehearts and Magang’a today before Cougars and Warriors face off in the evening.
Bravehearts Captain, Madalitso Kadiwa, said his charges were determined to win their first major trophy.
“Our mission is to win the competition and make a statement in domestic basketball,” said Kadiwa, whose side also lead Cezobal in their debut season.
Magang’a Coach, Hope Chisamanga, was also optimistic of retaining the competition.
“The players are ready and in good spirit ahead of the semi-finals. It will not be an easy task but we will do it,” Chisamanga said.
In the women’s category, Bravehearts Ladies will meet Cougars Ladies in the early semi-final whereas Lady Dynamites and Angels clash in another potentially explosive encounter.
The winners will meet in the finals on Sunday at the same venue. Champions in the men’s category will walk away with K2 million whereas the runners-up will get K1 million.
