Kinnah Phiri has finally penned a three-year contract as head coach of Tanzania Premier Soccer League side, Mbeya City FC.
Kinnah, who was until last week working as Mzuni FC technical adviser, confirmed on Mbeya website to have sealed the deal at Mkapa Hall on Saturday evening.
On Saturday afternoon, the Nyasa Big Bullets legend dismissed reports that he had already signed the contract.
“I have been here for two days. Negotiations have been completed this evening. I will now lead this squad for the next three years. It has been good for me to work in Tanzania for the first time. City is one of the great teams with great motivation. My initial efforts will be remaining in the league and build a new squad for next season “ Kinnah is quoted as saying.
“A few days before I came here, I learned of the existence of Juma Kaseja and Haruna Moshi on this team. These are the players that any coach would love to work with. I know about the strengths and talents at my disposal. I believe, I will be part of the success of the team. They have talent. I have no doubt this team will be one of the teams to be feared,” the former Free State Stars coach added.
Mbeya general secretary, Emmanuel Kimbe, told mbeyacityfc.com that Kinnah was tasked with ensuring that the team survives relegation.
“A good compromise has been reached. Our team now has a coach of the highest level,” Kimbe is quoted as saying.
