Kinnah Phiri, Eddington Ng’onamo to vie for Technical Director post

Former Malawi National Football Team coaches Kinnah ‘Electric’ Phiri and Eddington Ng’onamo have expressed interest to apply for the post of Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Technical Director.
The development comes after Fam announced on Wednesday that John Kaputa’s contract will not be renewed as the incumbent TD is set to retire having served Fam for eight years.
Following the announcement, Phiri and Ng’onamo have emerged as the first candidates to express their interest.
Phiri, who led the Flames to their second Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in 2010, said he had unfinished business with local football.
“I believe my passion for football is my biggest driving force to apply for the job. People in this country know what I achieved both as a player and coach. We need proper structures and processes of developing and shaping the game from grassroots to senior level,” he said.
Similarly, Ng’onamo, who despite coaching Flames was also once a Technical Director, said he could consider applying if the offer was appetising.
“I have a good job presently at Kalibu Academy but football is in my blood, if the offer is tempting enough, I might give it another chance having already been there before. I know what it takes to develop our game so let us wait and see,” he said.
