Buoyed by the confidence of four consecutive wins, Free State Stars coach, Kinnah Phiri, has set himself a target of securing top eight spot in the ABSA Premiership this season.

Stars escaped relegation following three consecutive victories but Kinnah believes that top eight spot is achievable.

They are on position 12 on the log table and trail eighth-placed Supersport United by just four points.

The former Flames coach told the club’s official website www. freestatestars.co.za that the goal of the season has been adjusted from simply retaining their ABSA Premiership status to finishing in the top eight with three games before the end of the season.

“The three victories have given the players a lot of confidence. They have started believing that they can push into the top eight,” Kinnah told www.freestatestars. co.za.

“There are three games left, so if we pick up all nine points it will take us to 40. I am sure that should enough to finish in the top half of the table, because the other teams will still fall back,”

Kinnah attributed the team’s success to discipline and team work.

“The players put in a very brave performance. They were very brave at the back and they showed a lot of heart,” Kinnah told the club’s website.

Stars have won four consecutive games; 3-2 over Polokwane, 1-0 against Ajax and Bidvest Wits), and 2-0 over Chippa United.

Kinnah took over as Stars head coach after former Flames mentor Tom Saintfiet was fired towards the end of the first round.
