Malawi National Football Team attacking midfielder Francisco Madinga has suffered a setback after aggravating his knee injury during training for his Georgian club Dilla Gori recently.

Madinga has been on and off for Gori this season due to injuries.

The former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers star was hoping to cement his place in the starting line-up after playing three consecutive matches following his recovery from injury.

However, things did not work out for him as he picked a fresh injury last week.

In an interview from Georgia Wednesday, Madinga said being reduced to a sideshow because of injury is frustrating.

“I got injured in August and stayed for one month without playing football. I recovered and played three matches but got injured again in training. I am now waiting for results of a scan on my knee,’’ Madinga said.

The youngster has struggled for game time this season due to injuries and has managed to score two goals for his club in all competitions this season.

Sports analyst Sherry Msuku said the youngster should not panic.

’’It is the wish of every player to feature regularly for his team and Madinga is no exception. No one can blame him for that. But he should not despair. It is very possible for him to recover and reclaim his place in the starting line-up,’’ Msuku said.

Madinga starred for the Flames during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon early this year.

He provided one assist for striker Gabadinho Mhango’s goal in the 2–1 victory over Zimbabwe in the group stages.

Madinga is a regular player for Malawi and came off the bench in the 2–1 victory over Ethiopia in the 2023 Afcon qualifiers at Bingu National Stadium in June this year
