Knights, Dynamites step up training
Swaziland-bound Central Knights and Lady Dynamites basketball teams from Lilongwe have stepped up preparations.
The Lilongwe giants are expected to participate in an invitational tournament in Mbabane from June 24 to 26.
Both teams have since intensified their training, Head of Marketing and Fundraising, Emmanuel Phiri, said.
“Both teams have been undergoing intensive training for the last two months. Due to lack of a coach, Zambia-based Zimbabwean Coach, Martin Muchena, has been drilling the two teams,” Phiri said.
He said Orbit Travel has offered the teams transport at half the rate of the fare.
Phiri said the teams were optimistic that other companies and individuals would contribute towards the trip.
Recently, the teams organised a fundraising show at Cockpit in Lilongwe.
Bravehearts and Mikoko withdrew from the tournament which will feature 40 teams from Southern African countries such as Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa Development Community and Zimbabwe.
Dynamites want to make an impressive debut on the international stage whereas Knights endured a miserable outing when they exited the tournament in the group stages last year.
