Knights host fundraising basketball
Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) giants, Central Knights, have organised a fundraising basketball tournament to be staged at Civo Basketball Court this weekend.
The tournament will run from Saturday to Sunday, and it involves hosts Knights, Dream Team, Pirates and Cougars.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, there will be a challenge match between Cezobal champions, Angels and Lady Dynamites on Sunday at the same venue.
Knights head of marketing and fundraising, Emanuel Phiri, said the tournament has been organised to raise funds for Kusewera Foundation, which helps needy children by empowering and educating them.
“We, at Knights, strive to get a good example to the youth as well as ourselves in learning life skills and helping out the communities. This is a small way of giving back to the community and setting a good example to others,” he said.
Knights are targeting about K200,000 to build Children’s Village Centre in Chitipi, Lilongwe.
Kusewera Foundation and Knights have been in partnership for three years.
In his remarks, Kusewera Foundation country representative, Chippie Mulima, who has been involved in organising the tournament, was grateful to Knights for the initiative.
Through the partnership, Knights have been donating foodstuffs, giving motivational speeches and running basketball clinics.
The tournament will be spiced up by activities including disco. American Pirates Casino has pledged to cover the disco expenses estimated at K50,000. Shoprite has also donated shopping vouchers worth K20,000 to be used for the draw.
