Malawi Cricket Union (MCU) academy team, KU Destroyers, have made it into the semifinals of the T20 FMB Cricket Knockout tournament after beating Crown Pharmaceuticals on Sunday.
Destroyers, made upon indigenous Malawians, have joined EazyPack Limited, Anchor Industries and Fattani Printers in the semifinals.
Destroyers won the toss and made 142/8 in 20-overs with Dickson Matiya registering 53 runs after taking four wickets.
Crown managed 137/8 in 20-overs. From Crown, Hafiz Suhail scored 35 runs whereas Bhaskar Bhatt took four wickets.
The MCU team won by five runs.
In another quarterfinal, EazyPack booted out Deekay Suppliers.
Deekay won the toss and scored only 58 runs before they got all out.
EazyPack made it in 14 overs when they scored 59/3 and won by seven wickets.
Giants Fattani Printers also reached the semifinals after beating Conforzi Plantations.
Fattani scored 145/7 in 20-overs. Asif Rustam scored 47 runs and took three wickets whereas Conforzi managed only 84 runs and lost by 59 runs.
Salman Khan was the best batman for Conforzi with score of 29 runs while Ejaz Shaikh and Ajit Singh took two wickets each.
Anchor Industries sealed the last semifinal slot when they knocked out Electra Sales. Anchor won the toss and scored 164/6 in 20-overs and Electra managed 110 and all out in 17-overs.
Anchor won by 54 runs.
Anchor hitman, Shani Hussain, left an indelible mark when he became the first player to score 101, which was also the first century in the FMB T20.
Electra tried to equalise through Suhail Gotti, who scored 24 runs whereas Irfan Vadia took two wickets.
Mpingwe Sports Club Executive Board Member and Sports Director, Abdul Jagot said they were impressed with the four teams that have reached the semifinals.
“So far Shani Hussain is the most outstanding player of the tournament. We are equally delighted with the performances of some teams including, KU Destroyers, EazyPack Limited, Anchor Industries and Fattani Printers,” he said.
