By Mphatso Malidadi:

Giants Kukoma Diamonds have completed the signing of promising shooter, Eddah Muyombe, from Karonga Queens at a fee of K200,000.

The Presidential Netball Cup and Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League champions had to wait for over three months to complete the transfer as Karonga were barred from selling or buying players following their ban due to violence.

Kukoma Team Manager, Sellar Mwafulirwa-Ligowe, said she was relieved that the transfer had been completed.

“We have waited for quite a long time to seal the deal. We had to exercise patience to complete the move as Karonga were on a transfer embargo. Eddah is a good player and we expect her to contribute to our team’s success,” Mwafulirwa said.

She said the team is finding life easy on the transfer market after sponsor Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori) committed to bankroll any player purchase.

“We are very thankful to our sponsor for keeping the promise. Cori made it clear that it will provide funds for us to sign any player we want,” Mwafulirwa said.

Muyombe said she was excited after being unveiled at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday morning.

“It has been my dream to play for Kukoma Diamonds. I know that this is a top team which developed Mwawi Kumwenda into the top shooter that she has been for many years. I hope to follow in her footsteps,” she said.

Karonga Queens Team Manager, Ruth Mwafulirwa, said they could not stop Muyombe from joining a team of her choice.

“She is a good player and we would have loved if she remained with us. However, she made a decision to join a big side and we cannot stop her. We wish her the best of luck as she pursues her career in Blantyre.

“But we have other good players who can fit into her shoes. For your information, Karonga has many talented players with good height for netball,” she said.

The development comes after Kukoma’s archrivals, First Choice Tigresses, signed Tendai Masamba and Joyce Saizi from Serenity Stars at a developmental fee of K200,000.
