Kukoma Diamonds awarded points

Giants Kukoma Diamonds have been awarded free points after Chitakale Sisters refused to pitch up for their Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) first round tie which was rescheduled to Saturday at Mulanje Park.

Chitakale wanted free points plus 150 baskets after Diamonds failed to show up for the initial fixture.

Last week, SRNL Disciplinary Board ordered the rescheduling of the game after noting that communication breakdown between the two teams saw Chitakale reporting for the initial game at Blantyre Youth Centre.

Chitakale Team Manager, Mary Chikweza, said there was no point to show up for the game against Diamonds.

“We hope that justice will prevail. We won the game right at their backyard because they did not come for the game. Officials should not play double standards just because we are a small team,” she said, while vowing to appeal against the decision.

Diamonds Team Manager, Sella Mwafulirwa- Ligowe, said the matter was water under the bridge since SRNL officials were present at Mulanje Park to award them free points.
