Netball giants Kukoma Diamonds have breathed a sigh of relief after Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori) renewed K10 million sponsorship after almost two years on standstill.
Diamonds Treasurer Bertha Mazeze said they were planning to hold a joint press briefing with Cori to confirm the continuation of sponsorship.
“We are happy that the sponsor has promised to continue bankrolling us at K10 million. Lately, we were struggling because the company only released a starter pack to cater for the period they left. Now they are back with the whole package,” she said.
Mazeze said the team was committed to repaying the sponsor by reclaiming the Rainbow Paints Blantyre Netball League title and other cups.
“We will work hard to win back the league championship which we failed to defend last season. The package is enough to motivate the players,” she said.
Mazeze admitted it was tough surviving on unsteady sponsorship.
Cori Sponsorship Coordinator Violet Kapolo also confirmed the development, saying more details will be disclosed later.
“We plan to hold a press briefing. We are still supporting the team which we built from ashes but is now producing players for the Queens,” Kapolo said.
Cori stopped bankrolling the side two years ago due to loss of business as a result of the then introduction of Value Added Tax.
