Giants Kukoma Diamonds will promote players from their reserve side as they begin life without three senior players Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda, Shira Kapasula Dimba and Alinafe Kamwala.

Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda left Diamonds for the United Kingdom where she joined Vitality Netball Superleague side, Severn Stars whereas shooter, Kamwala and attacker, Kapasula Dimba are undergoing military training as they push to join a Malawi Defence Force (MDF) side.

Diamonds chairperson, Lumbani Mtonyo, said despite missing three players the side was determined to maintain its last season’s form.

“We will maintain our status without our key players. We have a junior team and we will be promoting some players into the senior team.

“For your information, we managed to beat Tigresses without Shira [Kapasula Dimba] and Alinafe [Kamwala]. We will maintain our unbeaten record. We are still an aggressive team. We are still a must watch team,” she said.

Diamonds Reserve captain, Eddah Muyombe, is one of the players earmarked for promotion. The left handed shooter was bought from Karonga Queens at K200,000.

Meanwhile, Mtonyo said the side was working on fundraising activities to supplement the sponsorship it gets from Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori).

“We are planning a number of fundraising activities we will soon unveil our major activity. It’s too early to talk about it,” she said.

Last season Diamonds retained the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League with a perfect record.
