Kukoma Diamonds risk forfeiting points
Kukoma Diamonds risk forfeiting points after failing to show up for their Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League game against Chitakale Sisters at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday.
Chitakale Team Manager, Prisca Duwa, said they were hopeful of being awarded maximum points plus a win by 150 baskets following Diamonds’ failure to pitch up.
“We were surprised that upon arriving at the venue, Diamonds’ assistant coach, Noel Mussa, asked us as to why we travelled. He claimed that they sent a message through the league secretariat, but we didn’t get any information,” she said.
“We have the confidence that we will be given three points and 150 baskets as stipulated in the rules. We are confident that the officials are competent, no wonder, this league is reputed as the best and the strongest in the country.”
Mussa claimed that Diamonds communicated to Chitakale that the hosts would not be able to raise a team due to unforeseen circumstances.
“We also communicated to the secretariat and we were promised that the game would be shifted to Thursday [tomorrow]. Anyway, I know that we are safe. There is no need to panic and comment further,” he said.
The league’s General Secretary, Annie Hanjahanja, was not committed to state whether Chitakale would be declared the winner.
“I think there was communication breakdown between the teams. We will refer to our files before making our stand known,” she said.
