GOTV and Presidential Cup champions, Kukoma Diamonds, have announced ambitious plans to set up a secretariat in Blantyre.
Club chairperson, Isaac Chimwala, said he would like the club to become a well-established entity that should run like a company.
Chimwala disclosed that the club would register like any other company and operate from premises that will house offices for team officials.
“There is a legacy that I would like to leave behind. I want the club to be there even when some of us are gone. It is something we are working on,” Chimwala noted.
He said the club will attempt to build on the success story of 2015 International World Games Association Athlete of -the Year, Mwawi Kumwenda, who was brought onto the scene by the Capital Oil Refining Industries-sponsored side.
The chairperson stressed that it would not be good for a club that has produced a world-class athlete like Mwawi to operate like a briefcase entity.
“We keep imagining situations where people would be interested in tracing Mwawi’s roots. They would be wishing to get to the club that brought her into the limelight. So we want to reach a stage where we would simply direct them to what we would call ‘The Diamonds Village’,” Chimwala explained.
On the sustainability of such a venture, Chimwala said they would embark on small scale businesses that would grow themselves over a period of time.
He expressed optimism that other players would also support the move that would be marketed vigorously to ensure that it sees the light of day.
Chimwala emphasised on making the Diamonds brand visible on the market.
