Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori) has, through Kukoma cooking oil, offered to meet all expenses of Blantyre United in order to inspire the team to dodge TNM Super League relegation.

Cori Sponsorship Coordinator, Violet Kapolo, said the future of the partnership would depend on the team’s success in the league.

“So far, we will be meeting their expenses especially game bonuses for a win. We are doing this deliberately to inspire the side to work hard and stay in the league,” she said.

Sources revealed that each player will be getting K20,000 for a win from Cori, which also sponsors netball giants Kukoma Diamonds. The company also supports tennis and cricket.

The potential partnership was evidenced on Saturday when one of Cori’s Managing directors, Ameen Karim, was pictured with United’s officials during the team’s 2-1 win over Red Lions at Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre.

United General Secretary, Malekano Chisona, confirmed that Cori had offered to support the team until the end of the season.

“We are relieved because we have a deal in principle that our players will be getting upkeep allowances and game bonuses until we wrap up the season. I can’t mention the figures but we are happy because this will motivate our players to perform better and beat the relegation trap,” he said.

United are reeling under financial woes after their owner Lawson Nakoma threw in the towel.
