A Malawian dramatic comedy titled Kulemela, a creation of Tauka Arts led by Precious Denja, debuts on One Zed channel 172 on DStv and Gotv channel 8 tonight from 9:30pm.

Denja has since called on people in the country to support the comedy, which he described as a powerful comedy that will run with 13 episodes in season one.

The comedy comes as the country yearns for more of Malawian productions on DStv, which continues to be dominated by other countries.

“We have been shooting and now it is time for people to see the fruits. We are here for serious business and I am sure people will love the comedy,” Denja said Wednesday.

He said they have shot eight episodes out of the 13.

“This is season one and if we do well then we might move to season two. This is why we are calling upon people to watch Kulemela and it give it all the support,” Denja said.

Set in Balaka, the comedy follows the misadventures of a shepherd named Chopwicho Malizani, played by Denja, and those close to him.

His natural talent for breeding goats and cows has earned him a reputation as a skilled shepherd in his community. Despite his success, he feels that he is destined for greater things than caring for animals.

Chopwicho’s tendency to fantasise about events and the future adds a comedic element to the series. When he meets a beautiful woman, viewers can expect a journey filled with twists, turns, and plenty of laughs as they navigate their way towards falling in love.

The comedy has a cast of Denja, Talent Phoya, Edson Makande and Misozi Suman, among others.

Head of One Zed channel, Mosubi Pheeha said recently that the channel is tailored to fantastic family viewing and that they were pleased to be premiering an original show that tells an authentic local story.
