Kumudzi Centre donates to chess team
Malawi Chess National Team got a timely boost last Sunday when Kumudzi Centre, a Lilongwe recreation facility, donated 15 Jerseys to the side.
The team is bound for Baku Chess Olympiad in Azerbaijan, Eastern Europe.
Team Leader, Alfred Chimthere, said the jerseys were a timely motivation ahead of the Olympiad. The team will leave for Baku at the end of the month.
“This will certainly improve our morale. We need uniforms for identification, among others,” he said.
Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) Vice- President, Mark Chikoko, thanked Kumudzi for the kind gesture.
“We urge other well-wishers to come to our aid so that the team should do well. It is an international tournament and having uniforms helps players to play with confidence,” Chikoko said.
The Chess Olympiad is the biggest chess event in the world.
Full squad: Ellen Mpinganjira, Linda Jambo, Tupokiwe Msukwa and Vitumbiko Gondwe (ladies), Alfred Chimthere, Chiletso Chipanga, Paul Kuphwathea, Petros Mfune and Gerald Mphungu (men).
