After a year of no action, Kwathu Drama Group is out with the play Ana Akumpanda, to be premiered at Blantyre Cultural Centre (BCC) on Friday.
The last time the popular drama group held a performance was on Christmas Day last year.
Written by Charles Mphoka and directed by Eric Mabedi, the play delves into the issues of love and marriage.
The group’s spokesperson Bon Kalindo, popularly known as Winiko, Tuesday said all was set for the production.
“This is a Christmas gift to theatre-lovers,” he said.
It is an interesting story of a young man, who abandons a woman after he gets a good job in town, but myriad things transpire.
Winiko, who has not starred with Kwathu for some time since he was tied up with political engagements, said he was back to the stage.
“We are no longer talking politics now; it’s about Kwathu— art. This is what made me to be who I am and put me where I am,” he said.
He said, if everything went according to plan, they would take the play to other parts of the country.
“We are having the full cream in the cast and this is the first play we are having since we lost Evans Mbewe. It’s a tough year for us especially after losing Evans Mbewe. If all goes according to plan, we want to take it to Lilongwe, Mzuzu and other areas. The biggest challenge we have is funding,” he said.
