Kwathu Drama Group has announced that it has cancelled its Easter shows.
The popular group which recently staged their old production Alibe Pa bwino, was expected to stage a play titled Umboni wa Mwana on Easter Saturday at Blantyre Cultural Centre (BCC) and Gymkhana Club on Easter Sunday.
The play was written by the group’s spokesperson Bon Kalindo better known as Winiko.
Kwathu’s director, Eric Mabedi, who has been taken ill and hospitalised at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre confirmed Tuesday.
“The Easter shows have been cancelled as members have not had enough time to rehearse. At the moment I am in hospital I have been taken ill and if all goes well I might be discharged Wednesday (today),” Mabedi said.
He said he was responding to treatment and was better.
“We will communicate the new dates. It’s also unfortunate that I will miss the graduation of my first born son Mungo Wednesday (today) at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe (BICC),” Mabedi said.
He said he would have loved to be at his son’s graduation.
“I have been telling my son to work very hard and I am happy he has successfully finished his studies at Lilongwe University of Science and Technology.
“I have been at BICC and Bunda doing drama but it could have been better to attend my son’s graduation so I am sad that I won’t be there,” he said.
