Kwathu, French Drama winners to star at Easter Theatre Festival

After being out of the limelight for some time due to among others, lack of proper venues, Kwathu Drama Group returns to the stage during this year’s Easter Theatre Festival at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre.
Solomonic Peacocks Director McArthur Matukuta confirmed of Kwathu Drama Group’s performance and further revealed that they will also have JCC Director Luc Deschamps offering his poetry as well as Jacaranda Cultural Troupe and 2023 French School Drama Festival winners Jacaranda School for Orphans Secondary School.
“We are all set for the festival and the line-up is complete. We are excited to have Kwathu Drama Group on board and several other acts both local and international,” Matukuta said.
One of Kwathu Drama Group’s members Charles Mphoka confirmed of their performance during the festival which runs from March 31 through to April 2.
Other acts set to perform at this year’s festival include Ching’aning’ani ndi Sasoka, Dikamawoko, Chichiri Prison Cultural Troupe, Young Travellers, Yona Mlakatuli, Yereva State Puppet Theatre from Armenia, Solomonic, Native Eye Arts from South Africa, Siegmar Schroder from Germany and St Andrews High School.
The organisers are expected to hold a press conference at JCC today to outline the programme of the festival as well as where people can access the tickets.
Recently Matukuta bemoaned low application from the country’s artists to participate at this year’s festival and called upon them to change their mindset.
The Easter Theatre Festival returned to the stage last year after a two-year break due to Covid.
Some of the country’s groups that participated last year included Upile Drama Group and Solomonic Peacocks which presented collaboration pieces with Wales and Germany.
