Ladies volleyball targets grass roots
A group of female volleyball players want to concentrate on grassroots volleyball, after being impressed with the success of a recent invitational tournament played in Blantyre.
The two-day tournament threw off at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday followed by the finals at College of Medicine Sports Complex the following day.
The tournment’s Organising Committee’s Publicity Secretary, Shupikai Nyirenda, said they want to focus on the youth after being impressed by their performance during the tournament.
“The tournament went on well and it saw a Standard Eight pupil from Moyale become MVP [Most Valuable Player] and also an up-and-coming player of the tournament,” she said.
Nyirenda said the tournament, which they organised with funding from well-wishers, gave the ladies’ teams a chance to assess their form ahead of a national tournament set for next month.
During the tournament, Moyale Barracks stunned Kamuzu Barracks to emerge champions.
