Last cricket slot to be filled

Mpingwe Sports Club and Indian Sports Club will battle for the last quarterfinals’ place in the ongoing T-20 cricket tournament when they meet at Oriental Club in Blantyre on Sunday.

The tournament’s Organising chairperson, Saeed Limdawala, said the competition took a positive step last week when three teams reached the quarterfinals.

Limdawala said the cricket fraternity watched entertaining and competitive games last week.

“This is the path which we intend to follow,” he said.

Mpingwe White beat Mpingwe Gold by 12 runs. Mpingwe White made 139 runs in 20-overs with Umer Khan contributing 36 runs, while Angat Sing supplied 37 runs.

In response, Mpingwe Gold, while chasing down the score, replied with 127 runs.

Imran made 39 runs and Rizwan made 28 runs for Gold. Liaquat Khan took three wickets.

In another game, Oriental Cricket Club lost to Mpingwe Purple.

Occ managed 82 runs with Sarfaraz Biju contributing 20 runs while Sohel Hafeezi had 14.

For Mpingwe Purple, Saddam Patel and Azaz Saikh each took three wickets as Purple equaled OCC runs in 10.3-overs.

Sehbaz Saikh had 45 runs while Kamran Khan contributed 17 and Ayyub Patel had 15.

In another match, Mpingwe Silver outclassed Mpingwe Brown.

Silver made 159 runs with Aasif Rustam supplying 38 while Akil Bapu had 37 and Minhaz Amodi had 25.

For Mpingwe Brown, Anas Patel took three wickets and Soyeb Saikh had two.

In reply, Mpingwe Brown got all-out in 81 runs for Silver to win by 78 runs.

In the last match, Mpingwe Blue overcame Mpingwe Grey by one run.

Mpingwe Blue made 89 runs with Muzzmmil Patel scoring 22 runs, Terry Tarmohmmed 21 and Munir Kharodiya 15.

In response, Grey got all-out in 88 runs. Sohel Saikh supplied 27 runs.
