Flames blossoming defender Lawrence Chaziya has all the reasons to smile after signing a 10-month contract with Jordanian Pro League side Al Hussein Irbid SC.

Details have emerged that Chaziya will earn $20,000 (about K16.5 million) as signing-on-fee and $4,000 (about K3.3 million) monthly salary at the Jordan-based club.

Chaziya, whose contract had expired at Civil Service United, said it was a dream come true to play abroad.

“The team showed serious interest. I had other offers in South Africa, Iraq and Saudi Arabia but I made a decision to join this club. I hope I will advance my football career,” he said.

The 23-year-old was one of the most sought-after players after an impressive performance at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations finals with the Flames in Cameroon.

Chaziya will become one of the Flames’ top earners.

The lanky defender also disclosed that DStv Premiership side SuperSport United were also interested in his services.

The tall defender is waiting for air tickets and visa to travel to the western Asia nation.

Irbid announced on their official website the acquisition of the ex-Civil Service United defender, who was also linked with a move to three teams in domestic football.

“Welcome with us the Malawi international defender “Lorans Shazia” in the Royal Club,” announced the club on Sunday.

The international transfer window was closed on January 31 but it is still open in Asia.

Civil General Secretary Ronald Chiwaula confirmed the development.

“We, as a club, are happy as this is in line with our objective of developing players. We hope to export more players soon,” Chiwaula said.

Civil pegged the defender at K650 million.

The Jordan club spotted Chaziya during the Afcon through an agent based in Cameroon.

Former Flames striker Essau Kanyenda, who is based in the United Kingdom, said it was a tricky move.

“I think it is not a good move considering his age,” Kanyenda, who played football in Russia and South Africa at the peak of his career, said.

At Afcon finals, Chaziya made his Flames debut in the 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe after he replaced captain Limbikani Mzava in the first half of the match.

He also featured in the goal-less draw with Senegal and the 2-1 loss to Morocco in the Round of 16.

Details indicate that the club is based in Irbid and competes in the Jordian Pro League.
