President Lazarus Chakwera Thursday left Malawi for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will attend the 35th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU).
The assembly will be held under the theme ‘Building Resilience And Nutrition of The African Continent: Accelerate Human Capital, Social and Economic Development’.
The summit is expected to discuss issues of climate change and the AU’s financing.
The heads of State and government will also discuss the issue of nutrition and how Covid has compounded the already dire situation of food insecurity and malnutrition.
During the Assembly, Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi and Chairperson of the AU will hand over the chairmanship of the AU to Senegal President Macky Sall.
On the sidelines, Chakwera will have an audience with the representatives of Malawians in the diaspora.
Vice President Saulos Chilima, Cabinet ministers and traditional leaders were among those that saw off the President at Kamuzu International Airport.
Chakwera is expected to return home on Monday, February 7 2022.
