Lazarus Chakwera mourns PS Ernest Kantchentche
Ministry of Information Principal Secretary Ernest Kantchentche was laid to rest Monday after succumbing to Covid-19.
Government spokesperson Gospel Kazako said Kantchentche battled with the disease at home “The President [Lazarus Chakwera] is very devastated; he is speechless. He encouraged all of us to be safe but he is equally devastated,” Kazako said.
He described Kantchentche as a hard-working and reliable civil servant.
Kantchentche passed on after renowned journalist Maria Chidzanja Nkhoma succumbed to the disease 48 hours earlier.
Kantchentche died Monday morning at his home, where he was self-isolating after battling with the disease for about two weeks.
Mathews Kasanda is a journalist who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from University of Malawi (The Polytechnic).
In 2015, Media Institute of Southern Africa awarded him the Best Print Media Education Journalist of the Year accolade.
He joined Times Group Newsroom in September 2019.
