Lazarus Chakwera pledges support to albinos
By Audrey Kapalamula:
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president, Lazarus Chakwera, has pledged to protect persons with albinism from various forms of abuse and deal with murderers and abductions once voted into power.
Chakwera made the pledge when he engaged Lilongwe residents in Chinsapo Township on Saturday.
“I am extremely angry because of the manner in which we have treated this issue. We have a direction of duty that our friends should be protected in their homeland regardless of their minority. Everyone should act professionally so that they know and feel protected,” he said
Chakwera added that people with albinism lack support to meet their basic needs.
“I have personally wanted to find a solution to some of the issues that concern them so that we are able to protect them and have their skin taken care of. We want to, once elected, give each one of them a stipend to be able to take care of their skin,” he said.

Chakwera also had a whistle-stop tour from Mtandire Township where he pledged to make the city cholera-free.
“Everyone has settled in places where we don’t have roads, good water supply and clinics. We want to make sure that the city’s planning is followed and city councils should do their work properly. A capital should not have reports of cholera,” he said.
