Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president, Lazarus Chakwera, has said President Peter Mutharika and his vice Saulos Chilima are making vote rigging claims because they are desperate ahead of the May 21 Tripartite Elections.
Chakwera was speaking on Tuesday in Dedza District where he addressed a political rally at Pamfunda Ground in Traditional Authority Tambala.
Chakwera said there would be no rigging as Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) has assured stakeholders of free and fair elections.
“Vote rigging claims by Mutharika and his vice just show that the two are panicking and cannot win the elections. Therefore, you should not take them seriously since Mec is assuring us of credible polls,” Chakwera said.
Mutharika recently said some people were planning to rig the elections. Chilima made similar claims.
During a whistle-stop tour he had in Ntchisi on Monday, Mutharika claimed that someone had hired people from Nigeria, Greece and Russia to rig the elections.
UTM spokesperson, Joseph Chidanti -Malunga, has also dismissed the rigging claims.
At the Dedza rally, Chakwera also told the people that the MCP administration would improve road network and the health sector in the district.
In Dedza, Chakwera also addressed people at such places as Nkhanza court, Mpata wa Milonde School, Kalulu and Biwi.
