Lilly Alfonso hails Winter Ankara Fashion Expo
Renowned Lilongwe-based fashion designer Lilly Alfonso on Saturday hailed the youthful organising team of the Winter Ankara Fashion Expo which was held for the second time on the Victoria Avenue Street from NBS Bank Building to Chayamba.
Despite starting late which disappointed some people, the unique event lived up to its billing bringing on board several activities with fashion and music dominating.
The event which spilled over to the early hours of Sunday also attracted a good audience on a cold night.
“I am so honoured that I was invited to be part of the event but the main focus is that Malawians need to support each other. This show was good but where there are good things, people tend to bring in something bad,” said Alfonso, who also displayed her designs.
She said other countries “are doing well in the world of arts because people support each other and Malawi needed to do the same.”
“Why can’t Malawi do it? What I saw tonight clearly shows Malawi has talent and that is why team Lily Alfonso came in. We need to keep being creative and work hard otherwise we have potential,” she said.
Alfonso, who revealed that she has got surprise collections coming up further, said artists need to believe in themselves and utilise their various talents to grow the creative industry from fashion to music to drama to film and all other artistic fields.
There were some gaps in terms of other performances which lacked the much needed power and there is surely more room for improvement.
Eight designers showcased their designs on the night. While some artists, who were billed to perform, missed out, others made it and they included Patience Namadingo, Theo Thomson, Bucci, Yesaya, Home Grown African, Dan Lufani and kung fu from Amitofo Care Centre students.
