Lilongwe City partners Be More Race
Lilongwe City Council (LCC) has partnered Standard Bank, sponsor of Be More Race, ahead of the race’s second edition scheduled for June 9 in Lilongwe.
LCC Chief Executive Officer, Moza Zeleza, announced the partnership during a press briefing held in Lilongwe on Wednesday.
“We believe in a healthy society; so, we are in full support of the event. We support the initiative because it is very important that people should be fit all the time,” he said.
The bank has been sponsoring the race since 2017.
This year’s edition of the race was launched few weeks ago in the capital.
During the launch, Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer, William Le Roux, said this year’s race would focus on promoting group exercise as opposed to individual brilliance.
Last year, the race took participants from the city to Kumbali Lodge but this time it would be a city centre.
The race is split into categories for five kilometres, 10 kilometres and 21 kilometres for women, men and children above the age of 10 years.
Prize money for the 21-kilometre race is K1.5 million, with the runners-up pocketing K900, 000 whereas third-place prize is K550, 000.
Last year, Ndacha Mchelenje won the men’s category championship whereas Nalicy Chirwa claimed gold for the ladies’ section.
