Lilongwe Dairy Limited has disclosed that it is committed to continue bankrolling First Choice Tigresses Netball Club.
This was disclosed during a luncheon which the company organised for the team to thank the players for winning the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League.
The company and the team signed a three-year deal worth K30 million in 2019 which expired in June last year.
However, the company’s sales and marketing manager Gabriel Phiri said management has agreed to extend the deal.
“The club delivered during the first three years of the contract and management is very impressed. In the next three months, we will be able to announce the package of the new contract,” Phiri said.
Through the K30 million sponsorship, the company was bankrolling the team with K10 million every year.
The team rebranded to First Choice, through the popular brand of First Choice Milk.
Tigresses’ administrator Helene Mpinganjira hailed the company for supporting the team.
“We had successful three years and we are looking forward to more years. The players will be motivated and we promise to continue winning trophies,” she said.
During the ceremony, the company also gave the team K1 million as a token of appreciation for winning the Rainbow Paints title.
Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) president Blackson Malawi urged the team to safeguard the sponsorship.
“The future of Tigresses is bright. Let us be accountable and transparent in the way we manage sponsorship,” Malamula said.
Formed in 1974, Tigresses have won trophies including the defunct Airtel Netball Cup, GOtv and Presidential championships.
