“This is a great initiative and we are in full support of the race. As a city, we welcome the event with open arms as it will bring life back into the city.

“We feel very encouraged that it is happening in our city and at a time when we are changing in the way we operate,” he said.

Bikoko said the event would also create a platform for city council officials to interact with residents on developing a master plan.

“We have agreed to support Standard Bank in this race. As such, we will be providing some logistical support in terms of security.

“We will put up our table at the event to help us interact with members of the general public on our master plan. This is a great platform for us to reach out to our residents,” he said.

Standard Bank Head of Marketing, Thoko Unyolo, said preparations were at an advanced stage, with many people registering to participate in the race.

“The registration process is ongoing and I would like to urge our customers and everyone else to come forward. For now, the response is very encouraging,” Unyolo said.
