Fashion designer Lily Alfonso continues to make different moves as far as growing the fashion industry is concerned the latest move being venturing into sportswear.
Alfonso, who has been in the world of fashion for years, said Tuesday that having analysed the market, they thought of venturing in to sportswear as well.
“First of all, we saw the need to bring to the fashion table something new that Malawi hasn’t produced yet. All we see are international sportswear being worn,” she said.
The fashion designer also said LA thought this was something to look into and that they have already started working on different wears to reach out to all sporting disciplines.
‘If we can make these other types of clothing why not introduce sportswear? Now we see an increase in the number of people who go to the gym and they need to be in sportswear,” Alfonso said.
She said as LA, they believe in leading by example and that they would strive to bring out more fashionable sportswear.
“One can wear sportswear in the streets and wherever they feel comfortable but we want them to embrace our own brands,” Alfonso said.
“From our first collection, the sportswear has covered a number of sporting disciplines. Most of the wear is for both men and women and we are covering sporting disciplines such as netball, volleyball and basketball.
“We are making headway and we are happy with the response we have received so far. There is more we want to do and people should just watch the space,” Alfonso said.
