Renowned fashion designer Lily Alfonso will today showcase her 100 Year Plan collection at the 51st edition of Portugal Fashion.
Alfonso is representing Malawi at the fashion stage, which has also attracted designers from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia and Rwanda.
Apart from her designs, Alfonso is set to showcase collections of four of the works of other designers, some of which were selected from this year’s All Shades of Beautiful Fashion which was held at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre recently.
“I am showcasing, Thursday (today) at 3pm. We were selected from our respective countries and we have been supported by Afrexim Bank. I am showcasing, ready to wear collections. We were given yesterday (Tuesday) to appreciate the production systems that are producing for big brands like Balenciaga and Victoria Beckham,” she said.
Alfonso had promised to display collections of All Shades of Beautiful Fashion design genius winner Cliff but she said yesterday that she would be showcasing collections of Upie from Mzuzu and Merriam from Blantyre, who all participated in the design genius contest, All Shades of Beautiful Fashion founder Xandria and Joshua from the class of the Alfonso 100 year plan.
“We need to speak well about our country and walk by it and one of the ways is through showcasing what we have and fashion is one of the means. I have collections of other designers because, as I have always indicated, the only way to go far is doing things together and promoting each other,” she said.
Alfonso maintained that through her 100 Year Plan, she wants to help fellow creatives build on their artistry.
