Celebrated fashion designer Lily Alfonso continues her inspiring treads in the fashion realm as she will showcase her designs in Portugal next month.
And in her efforts of pushing fellow artists to the top and paving way for designers to reach out to different audiences, Alfonso will also showcase designs of four other designers including organiser of All Shades of Beautiful Fashion show Xandria of Xandria Fashion House and design genius winner Christopher Tchale better known as Cliff.
The others are Joshua Munkhondya and another designer under the 100 Year Plan.
Alfonso announced this on Saturday during the second edition of the All Shades of Beautiful Fashion show at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre which saw 14 models, some with various physical challenges swaying the audience with their skills.
The red carpet event that was spiced up by a performance from Lulu and Team Ice dancers also saw fashion designers some with disabilities battle it out in a design genius contest that was won by Cliff.
“I am departing on October 9 2022 and I am taking four designers including Xandria. The goal is to pave the way for other designers to shine. I am taking their designs and this is the easiest way to push each other,” Alfonso, who led the judging panel during the design genius competition, said.
Alfonso, who through her 100 Year Plan wants to help fellow creatives build on their artistry, said she was impressed with the fashion show and hailed Xandria for the initiative.
The Lilongwe-based designer, in a spirit of rewarding the works of fellow creatives, also decorated Xandria with an award and other items.
She said Malawi is not poor but rather there is a need to change people’s mindsets.
Cliff, who received a tablet among other prizes, hailed Alfonso for the gesture.
The designer, who is following in his father’s footsteps, could not hide his excitement in claiming the design of genius accolade.
“As designers, we all did well during the competition but God made me come out top. I want to do more in fashion design by supporting youths,” he said.
Xandria also thanked Alfonso for the support.
