Lily Banda comes with Words Spoken

BANDA—People will see the two sides of me

Artist Lily Banda, known for her roles in Chiwetel Ejiofor’s movie The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and British television espionage thriller series Deep State will tomorrow star at National Library Service in Lilongwe.

The actress, poet and musician is out with what she describes as Word Spoken.

She said yesterday that Word Spoken was the first part of performances lined up for this year.

“We are finishing a decade and so I thought I should have Word Spoken just to celebrate it and again, I am also celebrating my own decade having been in the creative industry for 10 years. People have been with me and so I want to celebrate with them,” Banda said.

She said she chose National Library Service as the venue because of the fact that it got damaged during post-election demonstrations and that she would like to bring awareness on its damage but also talk about its importance.

“During protest, a lot of infrastructure got damaged, one of those damaged was National Library Service in Lilongwe. Windows for instance, were damaged. I value literature and knowledge and so, I approached [authorities] to host the event there,” Banda said.

She described National Library Service as one of important institutions as far as preserving knowledge was concerned.

“I wan t through thi s performance to bring awareness about the damage but also make young people understand the importance of institutions such as National Library Service,” the poet said.

She said people should brace for a fantastic outing where they would experience acoustic music as well.

“People will see the two sides of me. There will also be a surprise package and so all I can say is let them come and experience the best of art,” Banda said.
