Limbe Leaf trophy for the Under 12 and 15 football and netball teams will be staged on Sunday at Silver Stadium.
The company has been sponsoring the trophy for over 35 years now.
Limbe Leaf Head of Corporate Affairs, Febbie Chikungwa said all is set for the finals.
“The competition usually involves Lilongwe Primary Schools and has served as a nursery for both Malawi national football and netball teams. Limbe Leaf continues to support the tournament as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. The main objective being to motivate the youth in sports participation while protecting them from engaging in risky behaviors and keeping them fit physically and mentally,” Chikungwa said.
She further explained that the company has pumped in K11 million ($19,000) into this year’s tournament.
“The budget is more than previous years because we have replaced trophies and kits. Players for winning teams will be awarded with different prizes that include school bags packed with school materials and text books for their respective schools.
“We trust that the prizes will not only keep the children in school but will also improve the learning environment. Improving quality of education in communities that we operate in, is at the core of our social responsibility policy,” she said.
Chairperson of the organising committee, Innocent Kaundula said the competition is gaining popularity year by year evidenced by increased participation to 1600 teams from 1200 last year.
In the under 12 football final, Tsabango will play Mitundu Primary School whereas Tsabango will face Mlare in the netball finals.
Chilinde will meet Kabwabwa in the Under 15 football final whereas Nankhaka play Kalambo in the netball finals.
