Malawi National Football Team captain Limbikani Mzava is hopeful of returning to competitive football as he has now started light training at his South Africa DStv Premiership side Amazulu.
Mzava has been out of action since January 14 when he sustained a hamstring injury on international assignment.
The former pillar for defunct Escom United and Mighty Tigers said he will likely start full time training by the end of the month.
“It is nice to be back though I don’t want to rush. The injury was huge and I am currently following doctors recommendations,” Mzava, who limped off midway the first half when the Flames defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in a Group B match of the Africa Cup of Nations finals, said.
Following the injury, Mzava missed two games against Senegal and Morocco.
Flames Assistant Coach Meck Mwase said this was good news for all stakeholders, including Malawi and Amazulu as the player was vital to the national team ahead of the 2023 Afcon qualifiers.
“We missed his services in the last games in Cameroon. We need him back,” he said.
The 29 year old was replaced by former Civil Service United defender Lawrence Chaziya, who has now joined a Jordanian side Al Hussein Irbid.
