Limbikani Mzava’s Golden Arrows miss Nedbank final
By Ronald Mpaso:
Malawi national football team captain Limbikani Mzava’s dreams of lifting his first trophy in South Africa were dashed when his team, Golden Arrows, gave away a 1-0 lead and allowed TS Galaxy to win 3-1 and qualify for the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday.
Mzava is the only Malawian player enjoying regular game time in the Premier Soccer League and his defensive acumen helped Arrows to qualify for the semifinals.
According to a match report on kickoff.com, Arrows started brightly but were pushed back afterwards as Lucky Setelele drew a save from Maximilian Mbaeva with a low shot.
“Arrows were awarded a penalty on 69 minutes after Sanele Mathenjwa was bumped off the ball. Mutizwa kept composure to send Mpakumpaku the wrong way. The counterattacking approach of Arrows nearly paid off when Mutizwa struck the post in added time.
“Soon after, from a corner, Zuke flicked the ball into his own net to send the match to extra time. After a slow opening 30 minutes, Galaxy brought the second instalment to life. Lepasa atoned for his earlier miss after 108 minutes with a well-taken right-footed finish from inside the area,” reads the report.
Galaxy added the final nail two minutes from time as Lepasa completed his brace with a close-range finish to put the National First Division side into the final.
