Lionel Asu’s ITC ready Friday

Be Forward Mighty Wanderers are expected to hand Cameroonian striker Lionel Asu his competitive debut when Nomads take on Surestream FC in a TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium Saturday.

The forward signed a year-long deal with Wanderers last week but he was unable to play because he is yet to be issued an International Transfer Certificate.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) transfer manager, Casper Jangale, said they had contacted Thailand Football Federation and it was likely that Asu would be issued ITC by today.

“The Thai FA responded to my email and I am just waiting for the player to be confirmed in the system. Hopefully, Asu can be issued ITC on 1st May 2015,” he said.

Asu said he was relieved that he would now be able to play for the Nomads.

“I really needed to be on the pitch,” Asu said.

Nomads coach, Elia Kananji, could not hint if the player would be part of the team when they play Surestream.

“If he is cleared he will definitely be part of the team but I can’t commit whether he will be in the starting line up because that depends on variety of things including game plan and training performance,” he said.

Kananji said Wanderers must win to continue with their revival.

Last weekend Wanderers blew a two-goal lead and allowed Azam Tigers to snatch a point when they forced a two-all draw.

Meanwhile, Surestream FC technical director, Peter Mponda, admitted that they were facing a daunting task.

“We certainly respect Wanderers but we are not afraid of them. We are still rectifying mistakes which we have noted. As I said earlier, the first five games would be tough, but we will certainly catch-up with the high demands of the league,” he said.

Surestream lost 4-2 to Blue Eagles in their opening fixture and they also lost 1-3 to Super League champions Big Bullets.
